January 2025

What a fabulous start to the year in Peppard class.  All month we have been learning about time by using a calendar to count down.  Today was the last day of the month so we celebrated with a little treat.  We will be counting down again on our February calendar and I would love to do a treat again at the end of the month.  I would love for parents to come in and be 'secret readers' throughout the day.  More to follow.

We have begun our phase 3 phonics and we have learned some digraphs, trigraphs and tricky words.  Please follow the link to find out more about how you can help and support at home.

In our maths lessons we have been learning about mass and capacity.  We then moved on to 6,7,8 and we are currently learning composition, one more and one less.  We have learned to conceptually subitise and arrange the numbers on a 10 frame.

We have also enjoyed practical maths including our snack shop and woodwork to name just a few.

Our topic lessons have been joyous.  The children are phenomenal at remembering details and they have learned to use talk partners to think their ideas through.  We have enjoyed stories from around the world and so far we have been to Antarctica and the Arctic, China and the surrounding area and next week we are heading to Africa.  Through topic the children have listened to stories, created artwork, retold stories, sang songs, earned about instruments, and developed understanding of the world.

I have introduced the children to ‘Helicopter stories’ which is acting out stories created by the children.  It is a very special way for the children to learn how to tell a story orally before they start writing their own stories.

Please do enjoy our photographs
