Highmoor 7th February

Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 10:58am

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

We’ve had a busy week, the highlight of which was attending the Sportshall Athletics event at Chiltern Edge on Tuesday. We all took part in lots of events including the relay, long jump, javelin, obstacle relay, triple jump and more. It was so lovely to see all the children supporting each other and be willing to have a go even when not feeling confident.

In English we have been working towards writing our own newspaper report about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. We looked at various newspapers and identified the different features. We role played as newspaper reporters in 1922 and interviewed Howard Carter, Lord Carnarvon and other people present at the tomb’s opening. We then had a go at writing quotes we could use in our reports. We manipulated main clauses and adverbial phrases to create new sentences about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb.

We have been working on length in maths and the different units of measurement and when best to use mm, cm and m. We have been carefully drawing and measuring lines of different lengths and comparing measurements.

We added depth and interest to our Egyptian inspired collages in art by using stencils, oil pastels and printing. We are very proud of our work!

Homework is Doodle maths, reading, times tables and spelling.

Have a lovely weekend.
