Highmoor 6th September

Date: 6th Sep 2024 @ 1:51pm

Welcome back to school everyone!

All children have been absolute superstars! They have been quick to adapt to a new classroom and teachers and have done some great learning already. What has impressed us most is how well they have been working together, looking out for each other and helping those that need it. What a lovely year group.

In maths we started with a recap on times tables. All children will be starting with their 2 times table. These are tested every Monday in school and results will be in the back of their home school diary. We will put in there the table they should be focussing on for the next week. We started our place value topic which is key learning so we will be focussing on this for a while.

In literacy we read the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright. We thought about our own magic boxes and what they would be made of and drew and labelled them. We will continue with this next week and write our own versions of the poem. We also made posters all about ourselves which the children enjoyed doing.

Our geography topic this half term is Rivers and the Water Cycle. We thought about all we already knew about rivers and then did some fieldwork outside testing what happened to water when we poured it on to different surfaces. We watched the way it flowed, was absorbed, split into different streams, moved rocks or around them etc. We will be applying this going forwards when we learn geographical terms to describe what is happening.

We had great fun in Science using household ingredients in experiments and had many wow moments.

On Wednesday we went to Kennylands for our gym session which we all enjoyed. It was great to be back there!

Parents are welcome in class next Wednesday at 3.15 for a quick run through of how things work in Highmoor.

Homework, as always, is Doodle maths - all children should complete their daily questions, reading every day to be recorded in their Home School Diary, practising times tables in whichever way suits your child best and spellings which have been sent home in Home School Diaries and will be tested next Friday.

Have a great weekend all.
