Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

In literacy this week we have continued to base our writing on Greek myths. We have been working on extending our sentences using adjectives, adverbial phrases and conjunctions.  We read about Perseus and Medusa and wrote a description of Medusa using all the grammatical features we had been practising.

In maths year 4s were working out the perimeter of rectilinear shapes and polygons. They finished the week with a recap on short multiplication and division and multiplying by 10 and 100. Year 3s continued to work with length and moved on to perimeter.

We learnt about the battle of Marathon between the Athenians and Persians in history and thought about why there are different versions of the event.

We all created our own basic databases using google sheets in computing. We made records of individual monsters, added fields to record their strength, speed, appetite etc and finally inputted the data.

We have continued to learn about Judaism in RE. This week we learnt about the Torah and the 613 rules or mitzvah in there that Jewish people try to follow. We watched several videos featuring Jewish children and their daily life. We followed a family on their visit to Jerusalem and their visit to the Western Wall where people place their prayers. We wrote our own prayers and wishes for the future and shared them with each other. There were some very thoughtful hopes and prayers from the children.

PE has been on the Common and playground practising our ball skills and in the classroom trying to get to grips with the dance moves of the Charleston! It is a quick dance and the moves are tricky but we are getting there and having lots of fun while we improve.

In science we were investigating leaves. We gathered many different ones from the school grounds and observed them by eye and with magnifying glasses. We saw that  some leaves were hairy, waxy, without chlorophyll and even had purple undersides!  Our investigation this week looked at both the length and the spikes of holly leaves.

Homework is Doodle maths, reading every day (don't forget to record it in Home School Diaries) times tables and spellings.
