Highmoor 25th October
Date: 25th Oct 2024 @ 10:02am
Welcome to the final week of our first half term.
We have had a great half term with the class, they have settled brilliantly into life in Highmoor and have adapted well to the changes that being in key stage 2 brings.
We finished The Firework Maker's Daughter and wrote diary entries as if we were Lila. We also finished rewriting the start of a chapter of the book and took some time editing it. Ava did a great book review on Turtle Moon for us.
In maths we moved on to column subtraction with exchanging. We started by using place value counters and place value grids to help us before we got more confident with the method.
This week we finished our unit on Forces in science by testing the ability of different magnets to attract increasing masses of paperclips. We discovered that the greater the mass the nearer the magnet needed to be.
We had fun in our rugby lesson playing a match against each other. It was great to be able to put all our skills learnt to good use.
We finished our geography topic on rivers and the water cycle by identifying some of the longest rivers and mountain ranges in the world and then adding them to our own world maps and drawing a key to help. We had to look very carefully as we mapped the features on to our own maps.
In Spanish we finished this half term by practising our numbers to 10 and learning how to ask how old someone is and the correct response.
We hope you all have a great half term and that everyone gets a chance to recharge their batteries!
