Highmoor 21 June

Date: 21st Jun 2024 @ 1:38pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

In history we learnt about why William the Conqueror built castles and the advantages and disadvantages of motte and bailey and stone castles. This linked nicely with our DT topic which was to design and build a castle made from a mix of packaging and nets of shapes. We had a great day on Tuesday thinking about the different elements needed for a castle and then trying to achieve our design. We all managed to make working drawbridges too with various ways of opening and closing them.

In literacy we wrote dialogue  based on scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry. We thought carefully about all the punctuation and grammar rules we know related to speech.

In science we learned the names of some of our muscles and labelled them on our body diagram. We then started an investigation into whether the size of our thighs relates to the distance we can jump!

We have been recapping short multiplication and division in maths and using these methods to solve problems.

In PE we enjoyed another session of tennis and also had a lesson involving team games with equipment to make obstacle courses.

We drew dragon eyes in art ready to create them in clay next week. We thought about what colours we will use and how we will achieve our designs using clay. Please can all children have some kind of covering for future art lessons. We will be using clay and acrylic paint that stains!

See you all shortly for Sports Day!
