Highmoor 20th September
Date: 20th Sep 2024 @ 2:02pm
Welcome to our week in Highmoor.
In maths we have been continuing with our topic of place value to ensure our understanding of number. We have been using place value grids, base 10 and place value counters to help with tricky partitioning and we have been continuing to improve our problem solving skills. We are also practising times tables daily, any time spent on this at home will really help.
We finished our Magic Box poems and they are up on the wall for you to see if you want to. All the children were really proud of what they achieved with this. We have also started to read The Firework Makers Daughter by Philip Pullman and wrote character descriptions of Lila the main character. Bode told us all about The Danger Gang by David Walliams in his book review, some of us are now keen to give this book a read!
In geography we learnt about the different features that can be found in the upper, middle and lower parts of rivers.
Our big question in RE this half term is Do Christians have to take Communion? We found out what Communion is and how it can help some Christians and then thought about different groups that we belong to and what kind of things show people that we are part of that group and what makes us feel part of the group.
We had a visitor from PCSO Sue on Wednesday and enjoyed hearing a story about how it is important to accept everyone no matter how different we all are. There was lots of really insightful, mature and empathetic discussion following this.
In music we continued to look at musical structures and created our own improvised rhythms to fit inside a verse, chorus structure. We also played our recorders learning top C, top D and bottom D in preparation for learning a new piece next week.
In science we were experimenting with friction and recording the Newtons needed to move shoes over different surfaces and when shoes had different masses.
Homework as ever is Doodle maths, reading, spelling and times tables.
Have a great weekend all.
