Highmoor 11th October

Date: 11th Oct 2024 @ 1:30pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

We are continuing with building on our addition and subtraction skills. Ww have been finding patterns in calculations like 4+2=6, 40+20=60, 400+200=600 and using this knowledge to help solve problems. We have also been solving calculations with missing numbers and using inverse operations to work out starting points of calculations when the answer is known. Many of these have been tricky multi step problems and have been quite challenging but all children have shown great perseverance when solving them.

In geography we researched the River Thames. We followed its route from source to mouth and got very excited seeing places we were familiar with en route.

We are really enjoying reading The Firework Maker's Daughter and have written sentences using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions about the story. We are using our planning books to start to gather ideas for writing a setting description about the story next week.

In science we started to explore magnets. We searched the classroom for metallic and non-metallic objects to see if they were magnetic or not. The metal radiator was, Mr Steele wasn’t, despite his metallic name, but strangely the plastic frame of the board was magnetic! Some interesting discussions were had!

In art we are making and illustrating our own nursery rhyme books. We have begun to plan our layout in our sketch books and this week have used a wash technique to create a background for each page.

In rugby we practised catching and passing using the pocket to rocket mantra and thinking about our attacking line. We are loving our gym sessions at Kennylands and feel like we are really improving our gymnastic abilities!

Homework is Doodle maths, times tables, reading and spellings.

Have a great weekend everyone.
