Highmoor 12th July

Date: 12th Jul 2024 @ 2:15pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

On Monday we had a visitor from Wallingford Museum. Sue told us about Wallingford and why it was important in Norman times. We looked at an aerial map of Wallingford and marked on the Anglo Saxon town boundary and located where William built his castle. On Tuesday we then visited the castle and museum for ourselves. We looked at lots of artefacts from Norman times, a scale model of the castle from how it looked in the 1500s and we got to handle replica arrows and helmets and try on some chain mail. We then went and explored the ruins of the castle. It was fun walking around the castle remains and imagining what life would have been like for people there. FYI The museum has an archaeology workshop running on Sat 20th if anyone is interested.

We have been busy rehearsing our songs for the play this week. We are very much looking forward to performing them for you.

Back in the classroom we have continued to work on co-ordinates in maths. We learnt about translating points on a grid and described new locations of vertices or how a point had moved.

In literacy we have been writing our non chronological reports about our chosen species of dragon. We included lots of the features of a report such as subheadings, fact boxes, pictures with captions, diagrams, labels, paragraphs and more. We have all enjoyed writing about a new species of dragon and describing its diet and habitat etc.

We continued to work on our dragon eyes in art. We used different colour paint to highlight texture and raised areas.

Have a great weekend all.
