Happy new year! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and got to spend some quality time with friends and family.
Our first week back has been a busy one. We started our history topic - What was life like in ancient Egypt? We did some reading comprehension around this, looked at tomb paintings to see what we could discover about Egyptian life and spotted things in images that did not belong in ancient Egypt! Our new class book, ‘The Ancient Egyptian Sleepover’ is set in the British Museum and we had a quick virtual look in the Great Court and the Egyptian sculpture gallery too.
In literacy we read The Egyptian Cinderella. Before that we made predictions about what might happen and then discussed the differences and similarities between the traditional version we are familiar with. We will be basing our writing work around this story for the next couple of weeks.
In maths we have been recapping short multiplication and looking at related calculations eg 4 x 6 =24 24, 4 x 60 = 240.
We started our science learning with our new topic of extinction and classification.
We also took a virtual tour of an Ancient Egyptian tomb in art and looked at the incredible decorations, making some quick drawings in our books.
We all had a go at Doodle maths in class and we talked about the importance of doing this and reading at home. These 2 things plus times tables and spellings have a big impact on students achievements in school. Thank you for your support with this.
Have a lovely weekend all.
