Greys Class - 8th Sept

Welcome back to all! 

Greys Class have really hit the ground running this week and both Mrs White and Mrs Tully are SO impressed with how quickly the children have settled back into school life and routines.

In maths, we have begun our place value unit. The year 1s have been working with Mrs Tully to sort and count objects within 10. Today, they explored grouping objects of different amounts. The year 2s have been investigating numbers up to 100, including recognising that 2-digit numbers can be broken down into tens and ones. 

In English, the children have been thinking all about buses! Our new class text that our learning will be based around will be shared next week. In the meantime, just know that it links to our topic all about 'transport',

In History, the children have begun learning about the Wright Brothers, who invented air travel. Over the coming weeks, they will further explore why the Brothers are famous and what impact their invention had on the world. 

In PSHE, we have been thinking about we are so fabulous and our star qualities. 

In Science, the children will be investigating materials in depth. They were given a selection of varied materials from play-doh to rulers and had to investigate whether they could twist, bend, stretch etc. 

In art, our unit is called 'Explore and Draw'. On Tuesday we went outside with Peppard Class to collect raw materials before coming back inside to create our artwork. 

In RE, the children discussed what makes them special and explored the parable of The Lost Sheep.

In PE with Mrs Elson, they discussed the importance of teamwork in the context of sports! 

Phonics (y1) and Spellings (y2) will commence next week. By now, your child will have been read with twice by an adult in school and will have been sent home for further reading. Please support this at home by recording what has been read in your child's reading record.
