Grey's 5 July

Date: 5th Jul 2024 @ 6:49pm

Welcome to our Grey's week.

I must apologise for not writing this blog for a while. My time has been taken up by a very busy schedule on the weekends of late with family visitors. Thank you for your grace.

We have had an extraordinarily busy few weeks.

In Maths Year 1's have been learning about money and have learned (I hope!) that the value of the coins is more important than the number of coins you have.

They are beginning their last section for the year, on time. It would be super if you could reinforce the order of the days of the week , months of the year and their order.

Year 2's have been hard at work getting to grips with the number of hours in a day, telling the time to the nearest 15 minutes. It has been interesting to see them transferring their fraction knowledge across to this section and using their counting in 5's and 10's to work out the minutes. Please assist your child in consolidating their newfound knowledge in telling the time. Our last section for the term is statistics. The children will learn about tally charts and bar graphs and hopefully they will be able to analyse simple data and create their own charts by the end of the section.

In English the children have all been hard at work on our Man on the Moon theme, creating the diary of an alien using a table to scaffold towards a written piece about the same creature, but in the past tense.

This week the children are going to be asked to write their own diary each day. Please could you support them in this regard. They are to bring them home and reflect on their day very simply.

In Science we have continued with our section on animal diets. The children looked at the link between type of teeth and the type of teeth herbivores, carnivors and omnivores have. They inspected each other's teeth, counted them ( loooads missing!!) and attempted to draw their mouths. They were able to sort pictures of the jaws of different animals by looking at their teeth. I was so proud of their knowledge on our visit to Beale Park. They were all so interested in the animals and could reliably classify them into their animal class. well done children!

In History we learnt about the first moon walk by Neil Armstrong. We learnt about him as an explorer and are now learning about Christopher Columbus; looking at him as an intrepid explorer but also as a person who whose motives were questionable. We've had great discussions about the morality of slavery and are now ready to compare these two explorers.

Thank you to those who drove the buses and accompanied us on our outing to Beale Park.

Thank you too to Mr Cotton who is regularly updating our Euro Football chart. We have a class draw and the children are loving seeing who remains in the draw to win a small prize should their team win!

In R.E. Grey's class learnt about Buddhasm and are busy collaborating on a piece of mindful collaborative art related to the topic.

In PSHE the children have been learning about saving money and keeping a track of their spending. We played the 'shopping game' in class where the children succeeded in reembering a very long shopping list and reminded that there are easier ways to keep track than trying to rely on their memories.

Thank you once again for supporting our reading challege months back. We recently gained a large stock of beautiful new books and puzzles; the ones seen in the photo's attached.

Thank you all for your support in providing a 'villager's' outfit for our school production. Grey's class, as usual, are rehearsing with great enthusiasm and sound fabulous!

I shall be away for Tuesday and Wednesday next week as I need to attend my two transition days at my new school. The children will be in the very capable hands of Mrs Fowler and Mrs White.

Have a great weekend.
