Welcome to Autumn Term 2!
Remembrance Day Service
On Wednesday we held our annual Remembrance Day Church Service. We had been practising our song, Dona Nobis Pacem, for a while and we loved singing it in the church. The song is written in Latin, and means "Give us peace". We really need a lot of that in the world right now. We enjoyed the service, and it reminded us once again of the sacrifices made by so many for our freedom.
The Year 6s spent their breaks and lunch times selling poppies and other goodies on behalf of the Royal British Legion.
Science
We started learning about thermal conductivity and insulation this week. We conducted some experiments, and timed how long it took a block of ice to melt when placed on various materials. We discovered that steel, glass and aluminium foil conducted heat well, whereas cotton wool, wood and cardboard did not! We learned the importance of observation and that touching experiments affects the result.
History
We started learning about the Victorians and how many things were invented or improved upon during this period, including the flushing toilet! It was a time of huge change and it will be interesting to learn more as the weeks go by.
