Greener Henley Event

Last Wednesday, some children from Highmoor and Springwood atteneded the Greener Henley Event at Henley College. It was led by children from local secondary schools who planned different activities to help us understand more about air, water and land pollution in our area. For one of the activities we made particle catchers with cardboard and sellotape. When we returned to school we hung them in different areas and next week we will study them with microscopes to see what type of particles have been collected. We will send the results off to the Greener Henley Team who will inform us of any pollution present in our school and give us ideas of how we can reduce this.  We found the event very inspiring and have come up with other solutions of how we can help reduce pollution in our school community.

Science

This week we set up electrical circuits. The class had to work in groups, but had to devise their own experiments to test materials for electrical conductivity and insulation. They first made sure the circuits all worked. Then they added a material to see if the electricity passed through that material. If the light bulb lit up, the pupils knew that the material was a good conductor of electricity. They discovered that metals conduct electricity well, and no-metals don't. This matched what they had learnt about heat conduction in previous lessons.

Gym

Once again gym was a whole lot of fun. The class had a great time on the track, bouncing into the pit and onto the trampolines and trying to pull themselves up a rope!
