Y5 Speech Awards

Our Year 5s performed their poems, readings and speeches this week. We are so proud of all of them and could see that they put in a great deal of effort and time.

Art:

We created beautiful green monoprints in Art this week. We used water based ink on flat trays to create our monoprints. We used a variety of tools to make marks into the ink and then pressed the paper to our design with rollers  to make the design print to the paper. We then peeled the paper away to find the inprint.

Science:

We continued our investigation into thermal conductors and insulators. This week we turned our attention to thermal insulators. Each group had two cups made of card and two plastic cups. Each group wrapped their cups in a particular material. Hot water was added to a plastic and card cup and an ice-block was added to the remaining two cups. The temperature of the water in each cup was measured every five minutes for half an hour. The groups recorded their results and shared them with the class.

English:

We have spent a great deal of time this week learning about ways we can make our writing more interesting and complex. We will put this to good use next week as we start writing a diary entry as a child in Victorian times.
