Springwood’s Week 14th March 2014

This week things have been back to “normal” and we have been looking at World War Two in more detail. In Literacy we read Rose Blanche a story about a little girl living in Germany in the war who disappears at the end of the story. We wrote a synopsis of the story in 75 words which meant we couldn’t include descriptions just merely facts. It was very interesting reading them out to the class lots of people had inferred from the text and said that Rose had been shot; we linked this to newspaper reports and the bias we read in these.

In Maths we have been looking at negative numbers and scales and revising our learning of these topics. We have also been carrying on with our mental maths and have had some amazing scores this week – Well Done.

In topic we have been creating timeline books about World War Two. We have been researching all aspects of the war from the Prime Ministers to machines used in the war, we have transferred these facts into zig-zag books.

We made a gift package for Mrs Jones to take to our pen pals in Bled this weekend including some home made bunting. We also recorded some videos of ourselves singing which we have sent to Bled, we will put them up next week.

This week we were lucky enough to go and see The Tempest at Valley Road School as part of HYF. After a picnic in Gillots car park we walked to Valley Road and enjoyed an afternoon of Shakespeare which we all took part in.

Next week don’t forget clean trainers for badminton on Wednesday afternoon and pyjamas for swimming on Thursday.
