Highmoor – 31st January

This week in Literacy, we have been learning about recount texts. We began by reviewing The Henley Standard Newspaper and reading some of the recent articles. In pairs, we spent time identifying the key features of this type of writing. We decided to write our own recounts of our most recent trip to RAF Benson. We acted as writers for The London Times and wrote a recount of the trip. We designed catchy headlines and included photographs with captions. Our work will be on display in our cloakroom. Here is Amber – Lily’s work:

We have been working hard this week in Numeracy learning written methods to multiply numbers. Some of us have been multiplying units by units using repeated addition along a number line. Here is some work by James:

Some of us moved on to multiply TU numbers and HTU numbers by Units using the grid method. This required accurate layout, knowledge of out times tables, careful multiplying by 10 and 100 and the use of the column method for addition! After much concentration, we successfully mastered the method. Here is Sophia’s work:

On Wednesday we went to ChilternEdgeSchool and took part in some indoor athletics practice in preparation for our competition next Friday. There were some fun and challenging events including speed bounce, relay and triple jump. We had lots of fun and are now very excited about the upcoming challenge against other local schools.

On Thursday morning, 9 children from Highmoor took part in a Football tournament in Henley. The team played 6 matches back to back against 5 other schools. Everybody who took part played fantastically displaying impressive physical skill as well as admirable team work, sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Miss Tillotson, Mr Biggin and Mrs Edgell were so proud of the children who represented Peppard with perfect behaviour and high spirits despite the cold weather! Well done to Elio and Joe for impressive goal keeping, Michael and Oliver H for strong defending, Oliver R, James, Francessca and Ava for continued drive and perseverance and to Max for never ending stamina!

Next week, our school focus is on being a charitable hero. We are having a whole school cake sale to raise money for Help the Heroes and would very much appreciate cake donations Friday morning. Thank you for your support!

Enjoy the weekend.
