Welcome back to our final term of the year.
This week we have been reading The Mousehole Cat and have been working on character descriptions. At the beginning of the week we role played different characters from the story asking and answering questions as to how they felt about the storm. We thought of adjectives and similes to describe Mowzer, one of the main characters and Mrs Hawkins was astounded by the number of similes that children wrote. On Thursday we then created our own imaginary sea creature and the following day we wrote our character descriptions of our creatures using suffixes, adjectives and connectives in our writing.
In Maths we have been subtracting numbers. The Year 1s have been using beaded lines and number lines to help them, whilst the year 2s used number lines and then began to draw their own lines. We were bridging 10 so had to ensure that we used our number bonds to jump to the multiple of 10 first. We worked out whether it was easier to count up or count down.
We carried on painting our seagulls and trimmed their wings and tails and next week we hope to finish them by making their beaks, eyes and feet.
We brainstormed ideas as to what we thought might be features of the seaside and then realised that there were quite a few that we had forgotten. We talked about what features are natural/ physical and which are human/ manmade.
We had a fun time making bunting for the Street Party and had a lovely time on Thursday afternoon celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday at our very own street party. Josie and Ruby led Grace in front of the whole school and everybody was very impressed with how loud and clear they spoke and with such great confidence.
Next Thursday we will be visiting The Lookout Centre for a ‘Pushes and Pulls’ workshop which forms part of a mini Science topic that we will be doing. They will need a waterproof coat and packed lunch. We will be leaving school at 9:15 and be back for the end of the school day. Please ensure that your signed authority is returned as soon as possible.
Summer seems to have finally arrived this week so can I please ask again that all children have a water bottle, sun cream and hat in school each day.
Show and Tell next week will be related to the Seaside.
