Peppard Class – 18th May 2018

We have had a busy week in Peppard class this week.

On Monday, we found a fantastic spider’s nest.  We found it in a cluster.  All of a sudden, the tiny spiders dispersed and ran in all directions.  It was fascinating for us to observe.

In maths this week, we have been recapping our 3d shapes.  We made an obstacle course outside and the children had to go across the obstacle course to find the given shape.  They did it as an adult directed activity in two teams but continued during their choosing time.  Also in maths this week, we have been finding missing numbers in a number line to 20 and on a hundred square.   Some of the children have been playing Hit the Button.

In phonics this week, we have been doing phase 4 and phase 5.  Some of the children are learning new sounds that fit into sound families because there is now more than one spelling to represent a sound.  We are working hard on our writing to ensure the children are able to apply the rules and sounds in their independent writing. We also continue to practise the tricky words with the grotty graphemes!  There are some wonderful games on Phonicsplay to support this learning.

We have continued our literacy lessons around the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  We have invented our own story called “The very fast Dragonfly”.  We researched the life cycle of a dragonfly and applied the structure from the Hungry Caterpillar to our story.

The children have been very engaged in both the PE lessons, they are growing in confidence with cricket and gymnastics.  We are using the scoring in cricket as a great opportunity to use our maths and counting on.

We have our school trip to Sutton Courtenay on Monday, we will need to leave school at 9.15.  The children will need a packed lunch, plenty to drink and dressed for the weather.
